Ohio vs. South Alabama prediction: Rushing matchup favors Jaguars

South Alabama has an opening on the ground, but its own defensive troubles make SPF’s seven-point spread difficult to back.
The rushing matchup
South Alabama has rushed for 423 yards through two games, while Ohio has allowed 409 yards and six rushing touchdowns, according to The Post, Ohio University’s student newspaper. That matchup makes the Jaguars the pick to win, though SPF has them laying seven points.
South Alabama’s defense also has a recent weakness to answer for. Tulane’s Jaylin Lucas ran for 214 yards on 11 carries in a 28-24 win over the Jaguars. That performance gives reason to question their ability to pull away, but it doesn’t establish that Ohio can exploit the same weakness.
Quarterback status limits the betting case
The Post reported September 18 that Ohio had no update on quarterbacks Nick Poulos and Matt Vezza after both were injured against Jacksonville State. It listed freshman Levi Davis as QB1 for the time being, leaving the starting assignment unconfirmed.
