Oilers vs. Islanders Prediction: Edmonton Is the Likely Winner, but -135 Is a Pass
Analysis updated October 31, 2026 at 1:34 AM CDT
The NHL’s top power play meets a top-five penalty kill at UBS Arena, where Edmonton is favored despite New York’s 5-1-2 run.
Edmonton’s power play faces a difficult test
Edmonton’s first-ranked power play, converting at 35.7%, is the clearest reason to favor the Oilers. Connor McDavid led the NHL with 36 points and 28 assists through 13 games, while Leon Draisaitl had 24 points and a league-high six power-play goals. New York counters with the league’s fifth-ranked penalty kill at 86.4%, which makes Edmonton’s -135 moneyline less appealing.
The New York Islanders’ official NHL preview reported that Edmonton entered at 9-2-2 and atop the Pacific Division. New York was 7-4-2 after earning points in seven of eight games, including Thursday’s 4-3 overtime win over Minnesota. That 5-1-2 stretch gives the home underdog a stronger case than the teams’ overall records suggest.
New York’s lineup remains unsettled
Islanders defenseman Ryan Pulock left Thursday’s game after two shifts because of an upper-body injury and didn’t return. Coach Pete DeBoer had no postgame update, and the early start meant full lines would be determined during pregame warmups. Neither starting goaltender is confirmed, so the lineup uncertainty limits confidence in either side and in the 6.5 total.
Prediction and betting view
SportsPicksForum prices Edmonton at -135 and New York at +114, with Oilers -1.5 and a total of 6.5. Edmonton is the likely winner because of its 9-2-2 start and elite power play, but New York’s recent form and penalty kill make the favorite’s price too expensive. Pass the moneyline, puck line and total.
