Blues vs. Red Wings Prediction: Goalie Uncertainty Makes St. Louis -115 a Pass
Analysis updated October 31, 2026 at 1:20 AM CDT
The Blues are coming off a strong win, but Detroit has John Gibson confirmed in net and three productive scorers. St. Louis may win, yet the SPF price offers little room for uncertainty.
Detroit can challenge the slight favorite
St. Louis finished a five-game homestand 3-2 and closed it with a 4-1 victory over Boston. The St. Louis Blues’ NHL.com preview reports that Robert Thomas and Philip Broberg each had a goal and two assists, while Joel Hofer stopped 31 of 32 shots. That performance supports making the Blues a slight favorite, but one game doesn’t justify laying -115 on the road.
Detroit is 6-4-3 after its own 4-1 win over Chicago. The same NHL.com preview notes that Alex DeBrincat, Viktor Arvidsson and Lucas Raymond have combined for 41 points through 13 games. Their production gives Detroit a clear path to punish a Blues team priced only slightly ahead of the Red Wings at -105.
The goalie gap favors a pass
Daily Faceoff, an NHL lineup and goalie-tracking site, lists John Gibson as Detroit’s confirmed starter and Hofer as unconfirmed for St. Louis. Gibson has a 3.15 goals-against average and an .874 save percentage in nine games, although he stopped 18 of 19 shots against Chicago in his latest outing. His season numbers don’t demand a Detroit bet, but confirmation gives the Red Wings less pregame uncertainty.
Daily Faceoff also reports that Blues defenseman Colton Parayko missed Friday’s practice with an upper-body issue but was considered probable. With St. Louis’ goalie unsettled and Parayko not fully confirmed, the Blues’ -115 moneyline doesn’t offer enough value. St. Louis remains the narrow winner pick, but the wager is a pass.
