Nevada vs. UCLA Prediction: Bruins Should Win, but Pass at -1800
Analysis updated October 30, 2026 at 8:26 AM CDT
UCLA averages 233 rushing yards per game, but its replacement quarterback makes a large favorite difficult to back.
UCLA can lean on its running game
No. 7 UCLA is 7-0 and leads the Big Ten with 233 rushing yards per game, according to FOX Sports / Associated Press. Nevada enters the Rose Bowl at 3-4 after losing four of its past six games, so UCLA’s ground production supports the Bruins as the likely winner.
Wayne Knight has rushed for 627 yards and 12 touchdowns, scoring on the ground in all seven games. Anthony Woods has added 459 yards and six rushing touchdowns. Their production can limit the burden on UCLA quarterback Ty Dieffenbach, who will make his third consecutive start.
Replacement quarterbacks raise the risk
UCLA starter Nico Iamaleava is out for the season with a knee injury. Dieffenbach has completed 43 of 70 passes for 505 yards, two touchdowns and one interception across three games.
Nevada quarterback Carter Jones will miss his second consecutive game with recurring arm and elbow injuries. Luke Duncan threw for 178 yards and two touchdowns without an interception in last week’s win over San Jose State, while AJ Bianco remains another option after dealing with a sprained ankle. That uncertainty makes Nevada’s scoring range hard to judge.
Betting prediction
SPF lists UCLA at -1800 on the moneyline and -22.5 against the spread. UCLA should win, but Dieffenbach’s limited sample doesn’t support paying -1800 or laying more than three touchdowns.
The SPF total is 43.5, with the over at -118 and the under at -102. FOX Sports / Associated Press forecasts mostly cloudy conditions and a 75% chance of rain in Pasadena, but the available evidence lacks the defensive and pace data needed to price the weather’s effect. Pass.
