SMU vs. Syracuse Prediction: Quarterback Questions Point to a Pass
Analysis updated October 30, 2026 at 7:33 AM CDT
The SPF market favors SMU, while Syracuse could be without quarterback Steve Angeli and three offensive linemen.
Syracuse's availability report favors SMU
SMU is a 10.5-point road favorite and -380 on the moneyline for Saturday's noon kickoff at Syracuse. ACC Sports, which covers Atlantic Coast Conference athletics, reported that Syracuse quarterback Steve Angeli is questionable. Quarterbacks Amari Odom and Malachi Nelson are out, leaving uncertainty at the position against a heavily favored opponent.
The Orange also ruled out offensive linemen Jackson Iak and D’Joni Scatliffe. Matthew Hawn is doubtful and Kahlil Stewart is questionable. That uncertainty makes Syracuse difficult to back at +10.5, but it also prevents a reliable assessment of how its offense matches up with SMU.
SMU's absences limit the betting case
SMU has 10 players out, including defensive ends Ira Singleton IV and Trey Wilson, safeties Ahmaad Moses and Tyren Polley Jr., linebacker I’Zayah Young and defensive lineman Tyron Winslow. Those defensive absences make the 10.5-point spread harder to justify, even with Syracuse's problems at quarterback and along the offensive line.
The total is 57.5, with the over at -112 and the under at -108. Unsettled quarterback and offensive line availability for Syracuse creates too much uncertainty for either total, while SMU's -380 moneyline offers a small return at a road price. The market points to SMU as the likely winner, but the betting lean is Pass.
