UTEP vs. North Dakota State Prediction: Bison Should Win, but Pass at -24.5
Analysis updated October 30, 2026 at 8:15 AM CDT
North Dakota State allows 12.5 points per game, but uncertain quarterback plans and limited scoring data make the Bison difficult to back at -24.5.
North Dakota State’s defense sets the matchup
North Dakota State enters Saturday’s first meeting with UTEP at 6-2 overall and 3-2 in Mountain West play. UTEP Miners game notes list the Bison first in the conference in total defense at 250.1 yards allowed per game and passing defense at 128.6. They also rank second in scoring defense at 12.5 points allowed per game. Those numbers make North Dakota State the likely winner against a 1-6 UTEP team that is 0-3 in conference play.
The Bison are returning home after a 21-16 loss at New Mexico. Quarterback Nathan Hayes threw for 198 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted twice. That result offers a reason to avoid assuming North Dakota State will turn its defensive advantage into a 25-point win.
UTEP’s quarterback remains uncertain
UTEP had a bye after losing 24-11 to San José State on Oct. 17. Raymond Moore III came off the bench in that game and completed 19 of 28 passes for 195 yards while rushing for 55, but the available reporting doesn’t name UTEP’s starter for Saturday. That uncertainty makes it harder to judge whether the Miners can score enough to cover or push the game above the 43.5 total.
Betting pick
SPF lists North Dakota State at -24.5 and -2800 on the moneyline. The defense supports picking the Bison to win, but the moneyline offers little return and the available evidence doesn’t justify laying more than three touchdowns. With no confirmed UTEP starter, injury information, line movement or broader scoring data, the spread and total are passes.
