Howard vs. Hampton Prediction: Bison Likely to Win, but Pass at -9.5
Analysis updated October 3, 2026 at 7:42 AM CDT
Hampton has allowed more than 30 points in each loss, but Howard’s recent form does not support laying 9.5 points.
Howard has the clearer path to a win
Howard and Hampton meet Saturday at Audi Field in Washington, D.C., for the 101st game in a series Hampton leads 55-44-1. SPF lists Howard as a 9.5-point favorite, with a -375 moneyline for the Bison, +280 for Hampton and a total of 50.5.
Howard University Athletics reports that Hampton is 1-4, has lost 10 of its past 11 games and has allowed more than 30 points in each of its four losses this season. Howard also won this matchup 34-7 last year, giving the Bison the stronger case to win outright.
Why the spread is a pass
Howard enters at 1-3 after three straight losses, including a 58-7 defeat at Rutgers. That form makes a double-digit margin difficult to trust, even against Hampton’s vulnerable defense.
Howard expects graduate quarterback Ja'Shawn Scroggins to direct the offense. Hampton quarterback Tre'von Taylor has completed 53 of 99 passes for 612 yards, three touchdowns and five interceptions, a turnover risk that favors the Bison but does not establish that Howard will cover 9.5 points.
The -375 moneyline asks bettors to pay a steep price for a team on a three-game skid. With no confirmed injury report, line movement or broader team efficiency data available, the spread, moneyline and total are all passes.
