Mets vs. Nationals Prediction: Manaea Gives New York a Narrow Edge
Analysis updated September 27, 2026 at 7:16 AM CDT
Sean Manaea has the stronger record and ERA of the listed starters, but New York offers little value at an even-money price.
Manaea provides the clearest matchup edge
MLB.com lists Sean Manaea (6-7, 4.67 ERA) against DJ Herz (0-1, 9.00 ERA) for Sunday's 1:05 p.m. ET start at Nationals Park. Manaea's numbers make New York the more likely winner, but his 4.67 ERA doesn't justify treating the Mets as a strong favorite.
The teams have split the first two games of the series. Washington won 7-6 on Friday before New York answered with a 7-1 victory Saturday, according to The Action Network. Its matchup page also labels both batting orders as projected, so lineup uncertainty limits any conclusions about the offenses.
Betting outlook
SportsPicksForum prices both teams at -110 on the moneyline, with New York -1.5, Washington +1.5 and the total at 8. The Mets' modest starting-pitcher advantage isn't enough to overcome the cost of laying -110, and their run line requires a two-run victory despite the even moneyline.
There also isn't enough information about the weather, bullpens or confirmed lineups to support a bet on the total. New York is the narrow winner pick, but Pass is the better betting decision.
