Washington’s quarterback change favors Seattle, but the Seahawks’ depleted safety group makes an 8.5-point margin harder to trust.
Washington’s quarterback change favors Seattle
Washington will start Marcus Mariota because Jayden Daniels is out with a dislocated left elbow. The Spokesman-Review, carrying reporting by Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times, also reports that Sam Darnold is expected to play after a glute injury. That quarterback gap helps explain why Seattle is favored by 8.5 points and priced at -395 on the moneyline.
Seattle also has a clear passing matchup. Jaxon Smith-Njigba leads the NFL through two games with 277 receiving yards and four touchdowns, while Washington has allowed a league-high seven passing touchdowns. The Commanders will also be without starting right guard Sam Cosmi and linebacker Frankie Luvu.
Seattle’s secondary makes the spread risky
The Seattle Seahawks report that safeties Julian Love and Ty Okada are out. AJ Finley is expected to replace Love, Rodney Thomas II will continue in Okada’s place, and Maxen Hook was elevated from the practice squad to provide depth. Those changes give Mariota a weakened area to target and reduce the appeal of laying more than a touchdown.
Seattle is the more likely winner, but the available evidence doesn’t justify paying -395 or backing the Seahawks at -8.5. With no reliable basis for an exact margin, the best betting decision is to pass.
