Buffalo vs. FIU Prediction: Passing Concerns Shape the 10.5-Point Spread
Analysis updated September 12, 2026 at 9:15 AM CDT
Buffalo's receiving availability matters against favored FIU, but the Panthers' opening-game turnovers weaken the case for laying 10.5 points.
Passing questions on both sides
Buffalo has four pass catchers listed as questionable as it visits FIU, a 10.5-point favorite at SPF. Sports betting publication Covers lists tight end N. Leonard and receivers T. Simmons Jr., B. Mays and T. Richards with undisclosed injuries. Their availability could affect Buffalo's ability to keep drives going, but none is confirmed out.
According to CBS Sports, Buffalo's Elijah Holmes threw for 189 yards on 47 attempts in the opener, with three touchdowns and no interceptions. FIU's JJ Kohl produced 301 yards on 50 attempts but threw two interceptions and one touchdown. FIU gained more through the air; another pair of interceptions could make covering a double-digit spread harder.
Betting decision
FIU is the low-confidence winner pick, but SPF's -440 moneyline requires a win probability above 81.5% to break even. One game of results and unresolved Buffalo availability don't justify that estimate or a wager on either side of the spread. Buffalo at +10.5 or +340 isn't a bargain simply because FIU is difficult to assess.
Pass on the 47.5 total as well. Without defensive or pace data, the quarterbacks' opening numbers don't establish how much scoring to expect.
