FIU's defense leads the case
FIU held South Florida to 208 yards and recorded seven tackles for loss in its 19-9 opening defeat, according to FIU Athletics, the university's official sports site. That defensive performance makes the Panthers the tentative winner pick against Buffalo, but SPF's 10.5-point spread requires a margin their opening scoring output doesn't justify.
JJ Kohl completed 31 passes for 301 yards in that loss. Buffalo allowed UAlbany 204 passing yards and two touchdown passes, giving FIU a reason to test the Bulls through the air. The Panthers still need to turn passing yards into more points.
