Now that they've decided to put potential pro careers on hold, Georgia running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel want to cap their junior seasons by setting the tone for a big 2017 campaign. Chubb and Michel announced two weeks ago they would return for their senior years rather than entering the NFL draft. TCU returned a ton of talent from teams that combined for 23 wins in 2014 and 2015 and welcomed transfer quarterback Kenny Hill (who is expected to play after hurting his foot in the season finale), but the Horned Frogs were plagued with inconsistencies. TCU was 4-2 in October, but back-to-back losses to West Virginia and Texas Tech started a tailspin where the team lost four of its final six games and finished 4-5 in Big 12 play. For TCU and Georgia, two teams coached by former defensive coordinators, defense -- especially the end-of-season type -- could be the key to victory when they meet in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl on Dec. 30 in Memphis, Tennessee. TCU's Gary Patterson was defensive coordinator for the Horned Frogs before he moved up to the top spot after the 2000 season. Georgia's Kirby Smart, a longtime coordinator and disciple of Alabama coach Nick Saban in his first year at the Bulldogs' helm, knows a little about defense and coaching in bowls as well, even though it's his initial trip to the postseason as the head coach. Running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel have decided to return to Georgia for their senior seasons. Outside linebackers Lorenzo Carter and Davin Bellamy said they will be back, too. Chubb and Michel said their decisions weren't difficult, adding that they didn't want to leave Georgia after a disappointing first year under coach Kirby Smart that included home losses to Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech.
