What does Boston's price require?
Kansas City's probable starter Randy Dobnak brings a 2.54 ERA into Saturday's matchup, compared with Boston's Ranger Suarez at 3.44, according to MLB.com. ERA alone doesn't establish a pitching advantage, but those figures don't justify paying a premium for Suarez. SPF lists Boston at -192, a price that requires a win rate of roughly 65.8% to break even.
ESPN lists Boston at 80-68 and Kansas City at 66-82, with the Royals just 27-46 away. Those records make Boston the tentative winner pick. The Red Sox's 36-37 home record, however, gives less reason to expect dominance at Fenway.
Availability and the wager
