Dallas Stars vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Prediction: Pass on Dallas at -180
Analysis updated October 10, 2026 at 9:17 AM CDT
Dallas is the likelier winner after consecutive shutouts, and Pittsburgh is playing on back-to-back nights. The matchup still doesn't justify laying -180 with the Stars.
Dallas has the rest advantage
Dallas responded to losses against St. Louis and Nashville by outscoring San Jose and Buffalo 9-0. Pittsburgh enters at 2-2-1 after a shootout loss in Columbus on October 9, so the Penguins must face the rested Stars on the second night of a back-to-back. Those factors favor Dallas, but the SPF moneyline already charges -180 for that advantage.
PensBurgh, a Pittsburgh hockey site, projects Dallas to use Mikko Rantanen, Wyatt Johnston, Jason Robertson, Roope Hintz and Jamie Benn in its top two forward lines. Pittsburgh's projected lineup still includes Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Bryan Rust and Rickard Rakell, giving the home underdog enough scoring ability to make Dallas risky at a steep road price.
Unconfirmed goalies make the price difficult to lay
PensBurgh reports that Jake Oettinger could make his third consecutive start for Dallas and that Arturs Silovs is in line to start for Pittsburgh after Sergei Murashov played Friday. Neither starter is confirmed, which matters when bettors must risk $180 to win $100 on Dallas.
Dallas center Matt Duchene is on injured reserve, while Pittsburgh is without injured defenseman Ryan Graves and winger Justin Brazeau. Dallas remains the likelier winner, but four games of Stars results and unresolved goaltending don't support the -180 moneyline or the requirement of a multi-goal victory at -1.5. The betting lean is Pass.
