Coastal Carolina vs. Marshall Prediction: Chanticleers +4.5
Analysis updated October 10, 2026 at 9:06 AM CDT
Marshall has the better record, but its defense has allowed 35.0 points and 475.2 yards per game. Coastal Carolina's passing game gives the underdog a chance to stay close.
Bailey can test Marshall's defense
Coastal Carolina University Athletics reports that Deuce Bailey has passed for at least 200 yards in all five games, averages 253.4 passing yards and has thrown 12 touchdowns. He now faces a Marshall defense allowing 35.0 points and 475.2 yards per game, which makes Coastal Carolina +4.5 more appealing than Marshall -4.5.
The Chanticleers have also allowed 25.0 points and 383.0 yards per game, compared with Marshall's defensive averages. Those numbers matter more to the spread than the teams' records, though Marshall's 3-2 mark still helps explain why it is favored over 1-4 Coastal Carolina.
Marshall has the stronger path to a win
Marshall quarterback Carlos Del Rio-Wilson has thrown for 1,004 yards and six touchdowns while leading the team with 209 rushing yards. Receiver Xayvion Turner-Bradshaw has added 22 catches for 324 yards and four scores, giving the Herd two proven ways to attack a Coastal Carolina team that surrendered 31 points to Georgia Southern in its last game.
Marshall should win at home, but its defensive results make the -185 moneyline difficult to justify. Coastal Carolina +4.5 is the better lean because Bailey can exploit that weakness, although the lack of confirmed starter and injury information keeps confidence low.
