Wild vs. Panthers Prediction: Florida’s -135 Price Is Too Steep
Analysis updated October 10, 2026 at 8:56 AM CDT
The Panthers return home at 2-0-2 and expect Aaron Ekblad back, but their depleted forward group makes Florida difficult to back at -135.
Florida’s injuries weaken the favorite
Florida hosts Minnesota at 6 p.m. ET after earning a point in each game of its 2-0-2 road trip. The Wild are 2-1-1 following a 3-2 loss at Tampa Bay and an overtime loss at Buffalo, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune.
NHL.com reports that Aleksander Barkov will miss six to eight weeks while rehabilitating a left-knee injury. Brad Marchand is also expected to miss an extended stretch with a left-leg injury. Aaron Ekblad is expected to return after missing two games for personal reasons, but his presence doesn’t erase the scoring and defensive responsibilities left by Barkov and Marchand.
Minnesota also enters short-handed
Wild defenseman Brock Faber is out indefinitely after surgery for a fractured skull. The Minnesota Star Tribune also reports that Nick Foligno is on injured reserve and Olli Maatta missed Thursday’s game with an injury.
Jesper Wallstedt has started Minnesota’s first four games while Filip Gustavsson recovers from offseason hip surgery, but neither team has a confirmed starter for this matchup. Without that information, there isn’t a sound basis for claiming a goaltending advantage.
Minnesota killed its first 10 penalties of the season before allowing a power-play goal at Tampa Bay. Matt Boldy has no points through four games, and Joel Eriksson Ek has one assist, leaving the Wild dependent on better production from key forwards to exploit Florida’s absences.
Betting outlook
SPF lists Florida at -135 and Minnesota at +114. The Panthers are the likelier winner based on home ice and their 2-0-2 start, but laying -135 with Barkov and Marchand out requires more certainty than the available lineup and goaltending information provides.
The reported 50-50 betting split is a default figure, not observed betting activity. It doesn’t support either side. Florida is the prediction, but the moneyline wager is a pass.
