Canucks vs. Devils Prediction: New Jersey Is Likely to Win, but -285 Is Too Steep
Analysis updated October 10, 2026 at 8:27 AM CDT
Vancouver has allowed 5.00 goals per game without Thatcher Demko, but New Jersey’s own defensive problems make the Devils difficult to back at -285.
New Jersey has the clearer path to a win
The Vancouver Canucks’ official game notes show that they have allowed 5.00 goals per game, and they enter Saturday after a 7-2 loss at Carolina. Thatcher Demko is also on injured reserve with a hip injury and is listed out until at least Dec. 21, according to the New Jersey Devils’ official preview. Those defensive concerns make New Jersey the likelier winner at home.
Vancouver’s offense makes the -285 price difficult to justify. The Canucks have scored 4.20 goals per game, while Elias Pettersson has eight points through five games. New Jersey has allowed 4.33 goals per game, so the Devils haven’t defended well enough to merit such an expensive moneyline.
Lineup and goalie uncertainty
The Devils listed Jonas Siegenthaler as a possible absence after he was injured against Utah. Johnathan Kovacevic practiced during the week and was expected to replace him if necessary. That uncertainty matters against a Vancouver team that has started the season with productive forwards.
Jake Allen started two of New Jersey’s first three games and posted an .875 save percentage with a 3.47 goals-against average. With no confirmed starter available for either team, there isn’t enough support for a side or total wager. Pass at the current SPF prices.
