Padres vs. Brewers Prediction: Strong Starters Make Milwaukee’s -143 Price Hard to Back
Analysis updated October 4, 2026 at 7:19 AM CDT
Logan Henderson gives Milwaukee a slight edge over San Diego, but Michael King’s recent form leaves little value in the favorite’s price.
King narrows Milwaukee’s edge
Milwaukee leads the NLDS 1-0 after Saturday’s 3-2 win, but Michael King gives San Diego a credible chance to tie the series. Field Level Media via AOL reports that King finished the regular season with a 3.21 ERA and then threw seven scoreless innings against the Cubs in the Wild Card Series. He also held Milwaukee to one run over 5 2/3 innings in May.
Logan Henderson still gives the Brewers a slight pitching advantage. He recorded a 2.47 ERA during an 11-3 regular season and posted a 1.93 ERA across his final seven starts. MLB.com notes that he hasn’t pitched competitively since September 23, however. That 11-day break adds uncertainty to a favorite priced at -143.
A total of 7 leaves little margin
The Padres created opportunities in Game 1 but left 12 runners on base and went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position, according to the Associated Press via News4JAX. Better results in those spots could erase Milwaukee’s narrow advantage, while another poor showing could waste a strong start from King.
Both clubs also leaned on their bullpens in the opener. San Diego used four relievers for 5 1/3 innings, and Milwaukee used five relievers after Jacob Misiorowski worked four innings. MLB.com reports that Padres reliever Mason Miller hasn’t pitched since Wednesday, giving San Diego a rested late-inning option despite the broader bullpen workload.
Betting view
Milwaukee is the more likely winner behind Henderson and home-field advantage, but the total of 7 points toward a game in which one swing could decide the result. King’s form makes the Brewers’ -143 moneyline too expensive, while the available evidence doesn’t establish enough of an edge to back San Diego at +119. Pass.
