Devils vs. Maple Leafs Prediction: New Jersey Is the Likely Winner, but -148 Is a Pass

Analysis updated November 8, 2026 at 1:50 AM CST

The Devils have won eight of nine, while Toronto has lost four of five. New Jersey still carries more risk than its -148 price suggests.

Recent form favors New Jersey

The New Jersey Devils / NHL.com game-day preview lists the Devils at 12-5-0 after eight wins in nine games, including four straight. Toronto is 8-8-2 and has lost four of five. That gap makes New Jersey the likely winner, but the SPF moneyline requires bettors to lay -148.

New Jersey also played the Islanders on Saturday and must finish a back-to-back in Toronto. The Maple Leafs are in the third game of a six-game homestand. That rest difference limits the appeal of paying a favorite’s price for the Devils.

Unconfirmed goalies add risk

Jack Hughes leads New Jersey with 23 points and has nine during a four-game multi-point streak. William Nylander leads Toronto’s response with 11 goals and 22 points, including 10 points over nine games. Both teams have a top scorer in form, which leaves little margin for an uncertain goaltending matchup.

Daily Faceoff lists Jake Allen for New Jersey and Sergei Bobrovsky for Toronto, but neither starter was confirmed. Until the goalies are set, the 6.5 total and its -125 under price are difficult to assess. The same uncertainty weakens the case for either side of the 1.5-goal puck line.

Betting outlook

Wise Guy Team reported that a DraftKings customer sample placed 88% of moneyline tickets and 99% of reported money on New Jersey. Those figures aren’t market-wide and don’t identify bettor type, so they don’t prove the Devils are overpriced. They do show that backing New Jersey at -148 means joining a heavily one-sided sample rather than finding an overlooked favorite.

New Jersey should win more often than Toronto, but its back-to-back and the unconfirmed goalies make the SPF price too steep. The wager is a pass.
