Ravens vs. Colts: Baltimore's Defensive Absences Matter at -3.5
Analysis updated September 12, 2026 at 6:53 AM CDT
Jonathan Taylor faces a Baltimore defense missing a defensive tackle and a linebacker, putting the Ravens' margin under scrutiny.
Taylor tests Baltimore's short-handed defense
Baltimore must cover SPF's -3.5 spread without defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike and linebacker Teddye Buchanan. The Baltimore Ravens' official report rules both out with neck and knee injuries, respectively. Their absences could make defending Jonathan Taylor harder in Sunday's opener at Indianapolis.
NBC Sports reports that Taylor ran for 1,585 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2025. Baltimore has its own productive runner: Derrick Henry finished with 1,595 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns. Those totals establish the threat each back presents, but they don't show which defense is better equipped to handle it.
Baltimore's receiving group has better availability news. The team's report says Zay Flowers carries no injury designation after full practices Thursday and Friday, though Devontez Walker remains questionable with a groin injury.
Betting decision
SPF lists Baltimore at -185 and Indianapolis at +154. Baltimore is the market favorite, but last season's individual production doesn't establish that its chance of winning justifies that price. The defensive absences also don't establish value on Colts +3.5. Pass on the side; there's no supported scoring projection to justify a bet on the 48.5 total.
