Westminster (PA) Titans vs Marietta Pioneers Predictions

Matchup outlook

Westminster enters Thursday night's opener at Don Drumm Stadium with the more proven offense. The Titans finished 8-3 in 2025, averaged 37.0 points and converted 93.0 percent of their red-zone opportunities. Quentin Goode started the final six regular-season games, completing 111 of 178 passes for 1,557 yards and 15 touchdowns. He was named the PAC Newcomer of the Year and ECAC Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Marietta counters with experience at the skill positions and along the offensive line. Week 1 starter Joe Tenta completed 55 percent of his passes for nearly 1,500 yards and nine touchdowns after replacing the injured Antwon Johnson in 2025. Benny Lewis added 533 rushing yards and six touchdowns in 10 games. Gunner Fox, Steven Rhodes and Nate Curry are the three returning starters up front.

Both teams begin 2026 at 0-0 overall and in conference play. Westminster was picked third in the PAC preseason poll. Marietta received 32 points and finished fifth in the nine-team OAC coaches' poll. Thursday's game is the seventh meeting between the programs.

What could decide the game

The clearest difference is at quarterback. Goode's late-season production came in an offense that ranked 33rd in Division III scoring, fifth in red-zone conversion rate and 58th in rushing at 177.5 yards per game. Tenta has starting experience, but his 55 percent completion rate raises the risk of stalled Marietta drives against the more productive offense.

Marietta's secondary gives the Pioneers a chance to slow that attack. Drew Neal made 73 tackles and earned second-team All-OAC honors last season. Leo Grandizio also made the second team after recording 10 pass breakups and three interceptions. Disrupting Goode and stealing a possession or two would make it harder for Westminster to approach last season's scoring pace.

Any score projection comes with substantial weather uncertainty. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remained in effect until 10 p.m. Eastern, three hours after the scheduled kickoff, and Marietta was under a Heat Advisory. At 2:53 p.m., the nearby Parkersburg/Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport reported 93 degrees, a 98-degree heat index and a thunderstorm in the vicinity. Heat, storms or delays could disrupt the game and hurt offensive execution.

There is uncertainty on both sidelines, too. Westminster interim coach EJ White and Marietta coach Tom Hinkle will each make his collegiate head-coaching debut. Their game management and their teams' Week 1 execution are difficult to project.

Prediction and betting assessment

Westminster is the most likely winner, although Marietta's secondary, home field and the weather keep confidence low. The Pioneers won two of their final three games in 2025 after opening with three straight victories and then losing four in a row. Westminster's case is stronger: an 8-3 finish capped by a 40-21 victory over Mount St. Joseph in the Extra Points Bowl. The prediction is Westminster 31, Marietta 24.

Whether Westminster is worth betting depends on the price, and SPF lists no moneyline, spread or total for this game. Without a quoted number, there is no way to tell whether the Titans offer value or whether the market would overcharge for their stronger 2025 résumé.
