App State’s defense gives the Mountaineers a slight edge, while Coastal Carolina’s 13 takeaways and four straight series wins make the road price difficult to back.
App State has the statistical edge
Coastal Carolina University Athletics reports that App State enters Friday’s game at Brooks Stadium 3-2 after a 10-3 loss to Old Dominion. Coastal Carolina is 2-4 after beating Marshall 27-21, and both teams are playing on six days’ rest.
App State has allowed 19.8 points and 335.4 yards per game, compared with Coastal Carolina’s 24.3 points and 403.3 yards. The Mountaineers also average more points and yards, giving them the stronger case to win a matchup priced close to even.
Turnovers could keep Coastal Carolina close
Coastal Carolina leads the Sun Belt with 13 takeaways, including seven fumble recoveries and six interceptions. App State has eight interceptions, tied for the conference lead, so either defense can create the short field that decides a close game.
The Chanticleers have won four consecutive meetings in the series and three straight against App State at home.
