Purdue vs. Washington Prediction: Boilermakers Favored as Brown Makes First Start
Analysis updated October 16, 2026 at 7:16 AM CDT
Purdue’s improving defense and Washington’s quarterback change point to the home team, though the -170 moneyline and limited matchup data offer little betting value.
Purdue’s defense faces a first-time starter
Washington-focused publication UW Dawg Pound reports that Elijah Brown is set to make his first start at quarterback for the Huskies. He’ll face a Purdue defense that allowed 17 points to Illinois and 13 to Minnesota during consecutive wins.
Purdue held Minnesota to 2.1 yards per rush and limited Illinois to 6.1 yards per pass attempt. That recent form favors the Boilermakers against a new starter, but Brown’s lack of college starting experience doesn’t establish how he’ll perform.
Purdue is the likely winner, but Pass is the play
Purdue enters at 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the Big Ten, while Washington is 3-3 and 0-3 in conference play. SPF lists Purdue at -3.5 and -170, Washington at +3.5 and +142, and the total at 50.5.
The Boilermakers are the more supportable winner because of their two-game run and Washington’s quarterback change. The available evidence doesn’t include injuries, broader season statistics or line movement, however, so it can’t justify laying 3.5 points or paying -170. Pass rather than force a wager.
