Holy Cross vs. Rhode Island Prediction: Rams Favored, but Spread Is a Pass
Analysis updated November 3, 2026 at 7:26 AM CST
Rhode Island has the stronger preseason rating and more proven returning production, while Holy Cross must replace four starters from last season’s Patriot League semifinal.
Rhode Island holds the stronger hand
Holy Cross Athletics reports that Rhode Island entered the season No. 132 in the 2027 Pomeroy ratings, compared with No. 359 for Holy Cross. The Crusaders also lost four starters from the lineup that fell 69-66 to Lehigh in last season’s Patriot League semifinal. Those gaps make Rhode Island the more likely winner at the Ryan Center.
The Rams bring back Jonah Hinton, who averaged 12.6 points and made 76 three-pointers last season, and Jahmere Tripp, who averaged 12.0 points. Transfer Matas Deniusas adds another proven scorer after averaging 12.5 points and 5.2 rebounds for UT Martin. University of Rhode Island Athletics also reports that Jason Fontenet II has recovered from the leg injury that ended his 2025-26 season.
The price requires caution
Rhode Island has won six straight meetings with Holy Cross, including a 91-77 home victory in 2024. Even so, the Rams must win this opener by at least 18 points to cover the SPF spread. Neither team has played a regular-season game, and probable starters and complete availability reports aren’t available.
Rhode Island is the pick to win, but its -2800 moneyline offers little return. The incomplete lineup information also leaves too much uncertainty to support either side at 17.5 points, so the spread is a pass.
