Penguins vs. Mammoth Prediction: Utah Favored, but -185 Is Too Steep
Analysis updated October 19, 2026 at 7:13 AM CDT
Utah’s NHL-leading power play meets a Pittsburgh penalty kill under pressure, but the uncertainty in goal makes this a pass.
Utah’s power play is the clearest mismatch
PensBurgh reports that Utah enters 6-3-0, averages 3.67 goals per game and leads the NHL with a 35.3% power play. Pittsburgh is 3-5-1 and has lost the first three games of this road trip while scoring 10 goals across its past five games, excluding a shootout-deciding goal. Its October power play is also just 3-for-24. Those numbers make Utah the more likely winner, but the SPF moneyline requires bettors to lay -185.
Pittsburgh still has players who can punish a bad Utah performance. The Penguins’ official NHL.com preview notes that Sidney Crosby has scored three goals in his past three games, while Tommy Novak recorded two assists against Vegas on Saturday. Pittsburgh is also 2-0-1 in its past three meetings with Utah. That history doesn’t outweigh the teams’ current form, but it makes a steep favorite harder to justify.
Unconfirmed goalies make both markets a pass
PensBurgh lists Arturs Silovs and Sergei Murashov for Pittsburgh and Karel Vejmelka and Sebastian Cossa for Utah, without confirming either starter. That uncertainty matters for both Utah’s -185 moneyline and the 6.5 total. Utah also enters after a 6-2 loss to Edmonton ended its three-game winning streak.
Utah is the likely winner, but there isn’t enough confirmed lineup information to support the price or a projected score. Pittsburgh at +154 isn’t attractive simply because the favorite is expensive, and the over costs -130 while the under is +110. The betting lean is Pass.
