Colorado Avalanche vs. Dallas Stars Prediction: October 13, 2026
Analysis updated October 13, 2026 at 7:39 AM CDT
The Avalanche are slight favorites at -115, yet their confirmed starter has struggled and Dallas has not named its goalie.
Colorado's special teams provide the clearest edge
The Dallas Stars / NHL.com game-day guide lists Colorado at 3-2-0 and Dallas at 2-2-1 entering their first of four regular-season meetings. Colorado has converted 22.2% of its power plays, while Dallas is at 7.7%. That gap supports a slight lean toward the Avalanche in a tight moneyline market.
Dallas has killed 88.2% of its penalties, compared with Colorado's 85.7%, so the Avalanche may not turn their stronger power-play rate into goals. Dallas is also without Matt Duchene following core surgery. Joel Kiviranta and Radek Faksa practiced Monday and could return, although Faksa was separately listed as a projected scratch.
Goalie uncertainty makes the price hard to back
Daily Faceoff, a hockey lineup and goalie-tracking site, confirms Mackenzie Blackwood for Colorado but lists Jake Oettinger as unconfirmed for Dallas. Blackwood enters at 2-2-0 with a 3.29 goals-against average and an .867 save percentage, which limits the appeal of laying -115 with the Avalanche.
Colorado is the more likely winner because of its early power-play advantage and Dallas' absence of Duchene. The wager is still a pass: Dallas is only -105, its starter remains unsettled, and the available evidence doesn't establish enough separation to justify either moneyline. The same limitation applies to the 5.5 total, where the Over costs -135 and the Under is +114.
