Devils vs. Red Wings Prediction: Rest Gives Detroit a Slight Edge
Analysis updated October 13, 2026 at 7:05 AM CDT
New Jersey’s quick turnaround favors Detroit, though the Red Wings’ slow start on offense makes their short moneyline price only a low-confidence lean.
New Jersey’s back-to-back favors Detroit
New Jersey visits Little Caesars Arena after a 4-1 home loss to Ottawa on Oct. 12. The New Jersey Devils / NHL.com preview confirms this is the Devils’ second game in two nights, giving the rested Red Wings the clearest matchup advantage. SPF lists Detroit at -115 and New Jersey at -105.
Detroit’s offense makes that price less appealing. The Red Wings have scored 10 goals in five games, have been shut out twice and enter on a two-game losing streak. Those results support only a small lean to Detroit on the moneyline, not the -1.5 puck line.
Lineup questions limit confidence
Detroit Red Wings / NHL.com reports that Lucas Raymond and Justin Faulk are expected to play after maintenance days. Marco Kasper and Mason Appleton remain out, while J.T. Compher’s status is undecided after he returned to practice. Detroit has dressed 11 forwards and seven defensemen in three of its first five games, so Compher’s availability could affect its forward depth.
Neither team had confirmed its starting goaltender or final lineup. That uncertainty matters with the total at 6.5 and the under priced at -130, so neither total offers a strong wager before the goalies are known.
