Chicago Blackhawks vs. Vegas Golden Knights Prediction: Bedard’s Absence Favors Vegas
Analysis updated September 29, 2026 at 7:13 AM CDT
Vegas is the likelier winner with Connor Bedard expected to miss Chicago’s opener, but the Golden Knights’ -258 price isn’t worth betting without confirmed goalies or complete lineup information.
Bedard’s absence widens the gap
Yardbarker / Field Level Media reports that Bedard is recovering from left-shoulder surgery and isn’t expected back until November. His absence hurts a Chicago team that finished last in the Central Division with 72 points in 2025-26, giving Vegas the clearest matchup advantage.
Vegas won the Pacific Division with 95 points and reached the Stanley Cup Final last season. Jack Eichel returns after leading the Golden Knights with 90 points, although the team traded 37-goal leader Pavel Dorofeyev to the New York Rangers and begins its first season under coach Ryan Craig. Those changes make last season’s results less predictive in the opener.
Betting outlook
SPF lists Vegas at -258 and Chicago at +210, with the Golden Knights laying 1.5 goals. The total is 5.5, priced at -135 to the over and +114 to the under.
Vegas should win, but laying -258 is a tougher sell. Neither starting goalie is confirmed, and complete lineup and injury information is unavailable. Those gaps also make the puck line and total difficult to price, so the best betting decision is to pass.
