Oregon vs. Illinois Prediction: Quarterback Absences Make -395 Too Risky
Analysis updated October 24, 2026 at 8:03 AM CDT
Oregon is the likelier winner, but uncertainty at quarterback and wide receiver makes the Ducks difficult to back at SPF's -395 price.
Quarterback absences drive the betting decision
Yahoo Sports reports that Oregon quarterback Dante Moore is out, while Oregon-focused publication The Quack Report says the Ducks haven't named a starter and will also be without receivers Evan Stewart, Jeremiah McClellan, Jalen Lott and Messiah Hampton. Oregon should still be favored, but those absences make laying -10 or paying -395 difficult to justify.
Illinois also has major losses. On3 / Orange & Blue News reports that quarterback Katin Houser is out, along with running back Ca'Lil Valentine, tight end BJ Thurman, offensive linemen Kai Pritchard and TJ McMillen, and five defensive players. Those absences are the main reason Illinois isn't an attractive bet at +310 or +10 despite Oregon's uncertainty.
Betting view
Oregon enters at 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the Big Ten, while Illinois is 3-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play, according to On3 / Orange & Blue News. ScoresAndOdds reports that 97% of moneyline bets and 95% of moneyline money are on Oregon, but that one-sided support doesn't reduce the risk created by the Ducks' unsettled offense.
Oregon is the predicted winner, but the best betting choice is Pass. There isn't enough evidence to support either side at SPF's current prices, and the missing quarterbacks don't establish an edge on the 49.5 total.
