West Virginia vs. TCU Prediction: Mountaineers Can Challenge the 10.5-Point Spread

Analysis updated October 24, 2026 at 7:40 AM CDT

West Virginia has two 700-yard rushers to test a TCU defense that has allowed only eight touchdowns through six games.

West Virginia’s running game can test TCU

Frogs O' War, a TCU-focused publication, reports that West Virginia is the only FBS team with two players above 700 rushing yards. Cam Cook has 833 yards, and quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. has 749. That production gives the Mountaineers a way to shorten the game and challenge TCU as a 10.5-point favorite.

TCU has allowed eight touchdowns through six games, the fewest among Power Four teams and second fewest in FBS. That defense makes the Horned Frogs the more likely winner, but Hawkins also has four games with multiple passing and rushing touchdowns. His ability to create scores in two ways supports West Virginia’s chances of staying within the spread.

Injuries create uncertainty on both sides

Kickoff Status, which tracks official Big 12 availability reports, lists West Virginia cornerback Jason Chambers, defensive linemen Corey McIntyre Jr. and Darius Wiley, and safety Da'Mare Williams among the players ruled out. Those absences could make it harder for the Mountaineers to prevent TCU from building a lead.

TCU running back Jeremy Payne is doubtful, while running back Landon Walker and offensive lineman Devan Robison are out. Those losses could limit a Horned Frogs offense being asked to win by more than 10 points.

Odds and prediction

SPF lists TCU at -410 on the moneyline and West Virginia at +320. TCU is the straight-up pick at home, but the moneyline price is too expensive with no recent-results data available to measure either team’s current form.

West Virginia +10.5 is the lean at low confidence. The total is 57.5, with the over at -115 and the under at -105, but the available evidence doesn’t support a total wager.
