The Tampa Bay Rays blasted four home runs -- including three in one inning -- to roll past the Los Angeles Angels 11-4 Friday night in Anaheim, Calif. Willy Adames, Austin Meadows and Jesus Aguilar homered in the third inning off Angels starter Andrew Heaney as the Rays took the lead for good and ended a two-game losing streak. Only these are less jarring since we have only a few weeks left in the MLB regular season, and these are backed by numbers because I know how some of you guys can get. Currently, the A's (there are games currently being played as this is being written) are atop the AL wild-card race standings with the Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Indians closely behind. Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto each homered and drove in three runs, and Adam Eaton and Yan Gomes also hit home runs to lead the Washington Nationals to a 12-6 victory over the Minnesota Twins in the rubber match of their three-game series Thursday night at Minneapolis. Rendon also doubled, walked twice and scored two runs, and Asdrubal Cabrera tripled and drove in two runs for Washington (81-64), which extended its lead for the first wild card in the National League to 3 1/2 games over the Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers. Nick Solak homered off Peter Fairbanks, the pitcher he was traded for two months ago, helping the Texas Rangers to a 6-4 win against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday night in Arlington, Texas. Solak went 2-for-3 in his 22nd major league game, raising his batting average to .360. Delino DeShields had two hits and two runs, Jose Trevino added two hits and, in the seventh inning, Rougned Odor homered for the second straight game to provide Texas a two-run lead.
