The Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins open the second half of the Major League Baseball season with a three-game series beginning Friday night at Target Field. Despite a 4-6 finish to the first half, the Indians will begin play 6 1/2 games clear of the Detroit Tigers for first place in the American League Central and seven games ahead of the Chicago White Sox and defending World Series champion Kansas City Royals. It's kind of counterproductive for me,'' manager Paul Molitor said after historic, horrific first half of the schedule during which the Twins went 27-54. Obviously I hope we have a better half,'' said Molitor, who in his first year running the team oversaw an 83-79 record that had the Twins in postseason contention until the second-to-last day on the 2015 slate. (Reuters) - Major League Baseball announced on Tuesday that the American and National League batting titles have been renamed after former greats Rod Carew and Tony Gwynn. A presentation was made prior to the start of the All Star Game in San Diego where the two baseball greats were honored. Carew, who spent his 19-year career in the AL between the Minnesota Twins and California Angels, captured seven batting crowns and had a career .328 average. Continue to Article
