Panthers vs. Packers Prediction: Green Bay’s Pass Rush Tests Carolina
Analysis updated October 28, 2026 at 7:40 AM CDT
Green Bay can pressure Bryce Young without blitzing, but both teams have important availability questions ahead of Thursday night.
Green Bay’s pressure is the key matchup
Carolina’s passing game meets a Green Bay defense built to disrupt it. According to the Carolina Panthers, the Packers have pressured opponents without blitzing on 38.5% of dropbacks, fourth in the NFL. Green Bay also leads the league with nine interceptions, including seven on downfield throws.
That pressure could reach Bryce Young, who was a full participant Tuesday despite a knee issue. Rookie Monroe Freeling is expected to replace the injured Taylor Moton at right tackle, while guard Damien Lewis missed two walkthroughs because of a knee injury. Lewis’ status remained unresolved when the available reports were published.
Carolina still has a way to threaten Green Bay. The Panthers average 276.0 passing yards per game, second in the NFL, and Young averages 285.3. Green Bay ranks fifth with 268.6 passing yards per game, so both quarterbacks can move the ball if protection holds.
Injuries make the spread difficult to price
Green Bay also faces uncertainty. The Green Bay Packers listed receiver Matthew Golden, center/guard Sean Rhyan and guard/tackle Travis Glover as estimated nonparticipants Tuesday. The team held a walkthrough, and that report did not include final game-status designations.
Carolina’s secondary is thinner. The Panthers reported that cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson remain on injured reserve, while Akayleb Evans had missed two days of work. Will Lee III and Chau Smith-Wade were identified as the two healthy cornerbacks on the active roster, giving Jordan Love a favorable matchup if Carolina’s availability doesn’t improve.
SPF makes Green Bay a 3.5-point favorite with a -185 moneyline and sets the total at 47.5. The Packers are the likelier winner because their pass rush can attack Carolina’s reshaped offensive line, but the unresolved injury statuses leave too much uncertainty to recommend the spread, moneyline or total. Pass.
