All-Star shortstop Javier Báez could return to the Chicago Cubs if they reach the playoffs. Báez saw a hand specialist in Chicago who confirmed the slugger has a hairline fracture of his left thumb. Red Sox legend David Ortiz, in his first public appearance three months after being shot in the back in the Dominican Republic, threw out the ceremonial first pitch before Monday night's game against the New York Yankees at Fenway Park in Boston.
