The Carolina Panthers signed Eric Reid on a one-year deal on Thursday, offering a route back into the sport for the former San Francisco 49ers safety who was the most prominent supporter of ex-teammate Colin Kaepernick's protests. Reid has been an unsigned free agent since being released by the 49ers earlier this year. Eric Reid has signed a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers, the team announced on Thursday. The 26-year-old was a free agent and as yet no financial details about the contract have been disclosed. The NFLPA filed a grievance with the NFL on behalf of Reid as he alleges he had been blackballed because he took a knee with former team-mate Colin Kaepernick in protest during the national anthem. Jimmy Garoppolo was lost for the season Sunday when his left leg buckled as he tried to cut on the Arrowhead Stadium turf. Swift's Sept. 8 show at Arrowhead set a stadium record for concert attendance with 58,611 -- set list here, for those interested. The immense crowd -- some of which stood on the natural grass playing field -- forced officials at the Chiefs' stadium to re-sod the turf, and just 15 days later, the 49ers were left with a blank space at starting quarterback after Garoppolo tore his ACL on that surface. Jimmy Garoppolo's addition last season immediately turned around the fortunes of the San Francisco 49ers. Now the 49ers will have to go back to life before Garoppolo for the rest of the season.
