Closer Brad Hand was traded from the San Diego Padres to the Cleveland Indians on Thursday, MLB Network reported. The Indians also acquired submarining right-hander Adam Cimber, who was a 3.17 ERA with 51 strikeouts in 48 1/3 innings as a rookie, and received Cleveland's top prospect, Francisco Mejia, in return. Mejia, rated as the top prospect in the Indians system by Baseball America and No. 15 overall on MLB.com's Top 100 list, was batting .279 with 22 doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 45 RBI in 79 games for Triple-A Columbus this season. On the way back, he crossed in front of the Orioles’ first baseman Chris Davis, who has the lowest batting average in baseball and, like Gallo, is a left-handed power hitter struggling to figure out extreme shifts. “Well, that’s why we are hitting .200,” Gallo cracked and Davis had to stifle a laugh. Hey, it beats crying. It also hints at the frustration of Gallo’s first half. The first half came to an end Sunday with the Rangers 6-5 Continue to Article

BALTIMORE (AP) — For well over six seasons, Manny Machado's value to the Baltimore Orioles has been solely his ability to hit and play the field. All that has changed, now that the Orioles are looking to receive a huge return for their All-Star shortstop in a blockbuster trade. Machado homered before being removed on a wet day, Adam Jones hit a three-run double and Baltimore rallied past the Texas Rangers 6-5 Sunday. Machado was taken out of the game in the fifth inning by manager Buck Showalter after a 26-minute rain delay. The move was designed to get their star player off a sloppy field, because the last-place Orioles are entertaining offers for Machado before the July 31 non-waiver trade Continue to Article
