Community Picks: Baltimore Orioles 0% vs Seattle Mariners 0%

The Orioles haven’t had a record better than .500 since June 11. Although this doesn’t sound like a circumstance that would leave them contending for anything except for the best October vacation plans, they remain only 2.5 games back of the second wild card spot in the American League. Whatever the Orioles are going to do the rest of the way, they have 44 games left to do it. The good news for them is that’s still a lot of games to be played. Boog Powell made his Oakland Athletics debut a day later than he planned. Powell, acquired from the Seattle Mariners last Sunday for Yonder Alonso, was fighting a cold and experienced an asthma attack he said had him breathing at about 50 percent. The breathing issue was the worst Powell could remember, and he only had a couple of asthma attacks as a child. Continue to Article

If everything seems like it sucks for the Orioles right now, that’s probably because it is - but don’t worry, they’re still “just” two games back of a wild card spot. Two games is only two games, though they also have five teams to pass in order to get there. That’s a lot of teams to pass. One reason why it’s such a bummer to lose a game like last night’s is that Oakland is not a good team. These are supposed to be the gimme games.
