Jose Berrios was coming off his worst start of the season, during which his personal trainer spotted some stiffness on the right side of his delivery. The Minnesota Twins did too, with an early burst. Miguel Sano hit a three-run home run, Jose Berrios went strong into the seventh inning and the Twins beat New York 6-1 on Wednesday to win their first home series against the Yankees in nine years. CHICAGO (CBS) — Make no mistake about the big seven-player swap between the White Sox and Yankees on Tuesday night: The trade had no chance of getting done without Chicago receiving 20-year-old outfielder Blake Rutherford from New York. Rutherford was a first-round pick of the Yankees at No. 18 overall in 2016. He’s lauded for his top-rated bat speed and power potential. “We loved him in the draft two years ago,” a high-ranking National League executive said. “Blake was on our board, but we never got a chance when he was taken at 18. He is a solid kid raised in California with great makeup and the ability to hit for both power and average. I have him as a .280-.300 hitter with the chance to hit Continue to Article

Yoan Moncada was arriving in his new town and texted a friend to see if he could pick him up at the airport. Who was Jose Abreu to say no? So when baseball’s top prospect arrived at Midway on Wednesday, a familiar face was already there waiting. Teammates previously for Cienfuegos and now again with the White Sox, Moncada said he and Abreu are in a “unique” position, one the veteran first baseman absolutely relishes. Abreu wants to be there for the young second baseman and thought there was no better way to display that then to pick him up at the airport on the day Moncada is set to make his White Sox debut. “It was a good ride,” Abreu said through an interpreter. “We got a little bit nervous Continue to Article

The New York Yankees have ignited their playoff drive despite a midseason tailspin with the acquisition of power-hitting infielder Todd Frazier and power-armed relievers Tommy Kahnle and David Robertson. The bold trade that sent reliever Tyler Clippard and three prospects, including 2016 first-round draft pick Blake Rutherford, to the Chicago White Sox was completed on Tuesday night. The Yankees were on their way to beating the Twins while the deal was being done. Continue to Article

Chicago White Sox
Ecstatic to be headed to the New York Yankees, Todd Frazier had an idea something was in the works the minute he learned he was scratched from Tuesday’s game. Frazier stayed in the White Sox dugout for almost the entire 1-0 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers save for several trips to the clubhouse. The third baseman said he learned more and more with each trip back. Frazier had heard all of the rumors about where else he might be headed but it wasn’t until shortly after Tuesday’s game concluded that he, David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle learned they would be headed to the New York Yankees in a deal that netted the White Sox four players, including highly touted prospect Blake Rutherford and veteran Continue to Article
