Kansas City Royals
Things can change very quickly in Major League Baseball. In a span of 18 months, the Royals have gone from baseball’s most exciting and successful team — winning the franchise’s first World Series in 30 years — to the brink of a rebuild thanks to this season’s disappointing 12-21 start. In fact, we may have seen the first steps toward a full-scale house-cleaning on Wednesday when the team designated two players, Christian Colon and Peter O’Brien, for assignment. Continue to Article

Kansas City Royals
Chris Archer pitched eight shutout innings Wednesday night and Logan Morrison, Rickie Weeks Jr., and Colby Rasmus homered for the Tampa Bay Rays in a 12-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Archer (3-1) won for the first time in five starts since April 14 to help the Rays break a three-game losing streak. Kansas City Royals
The Royals on Wednesday selected the contracts of right-handed pitchers Seth Maness and Al Alburquerque from Class AAA Omaha. To clear space on the 40-man roster, the Royals designated infielder Christian Colon, who was on the 25-man roster, and first baseman/outfielder Peter O’Brien, who was in Omaha, for assignment. The Royals also optioned pitcher Jake Junis back to Omaha. Maness and Alburquerque will be available when the Royals play the third game of a four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays at 6:10 Wednesday night at Tropicana Field. Cheslor Cuthbert is scheduled to start at second base. Ned Yost on deciding between Christian Colon, Whit Merrifield for last roster spot The Kansas City Continue to Article

Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays were banking on Longoria becoming the face of the franchise from the time they made him the No. 3 pick in the 2006 draft and he didn't disappoint. He reached the majors in mid-April 2008, and just six days later he signed a six-year, $17.5 million Continue to Article

Kansas City Royals
Before the 2017 season began, the Royals talked about scoring more runs by hitting more homers. So far, that plan has not worked out. We’re nine games away from the 40-game benchmark that Dayton Moore says he uses to assess a team, and the Royals are currently second-to-last in home runs and dead last in runs scored. Standing around waiting for someone to hit a bomb is not how this team won two consecutive American League Championships and one World Series. But the game the Royals played on Monday night against the Tampa Bay Rays looked more familiar. Why trying to hit home runs doesn’t work Fred McGriff was once asked how he hit 30 home runs a season on such a regular basis — he did it 10 times Continue to Article
