Wild vs. Sabres Prediction: Expected Ellis Start Leaves Little Betting Edge

Analysis updated October 6, 2026 at 7:14 AM CDT

Minnesota is the narrow pick to win, but the available evidence does not justify betting the Wild at -112.

Buffalo turns to Ellis

Buffalo Sabres / NHL.com reported that Colten Ellis worked in the starter’s net Monday and is expected to face Minnesota on Tuesday. Alex Lyon had not returned to practice because of an upper-body injury. Minnesota’s starting goalie is unconfirmed, leaving too much uncertainty to draw a useful goaltending advantage.

Buffalo’s power play went 0-for-8 over its first two games. Noah Ostlund replaced Josh Doan on the top unit at Monday’s practice, but one practice change does not establish whether the Sabres will improve with the man advantage.

Betting decision

The SPF market makes Minnesota a slight favorite at -112, compared with Buffalo at -108. That narrow difference supports picking the Wild as the likelier winner, but the available records, recent results and Minnesota season statistics do not support a wager at that price. Pass on the moneyline.

The total is 6.5, with the over at +102 and the under at -122. With Minnesota’s goalie unconfirmed and no recent scoring data available for either team, neither side of the total is supportable.
