Guardians vs. Tigers Prediction: Williams Gives Cleveland the Edge at -168
Analysis updated September 6, 2026 at 5:09 AM CDT
Cleveland is the winner pick behind probable starter Gavin Williams. The case for paying -168 is less convincing.
Williams leads the case for Cleveland
Gavin Williams' ability to limit baserunners is Cleveland's clearest advantage against Detroit on Sunday. FOX Sports / Associated Press lists Williams as the Guardians' probable starter with a 3.81 ERA and 1.09 WHIP, compared with Jackson Jobe's 4.63 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. That pitching edge favors Cleveland, which SPF prices at -168 against Detroit at +139.
The same report gives Cleveland a 9-3 lead in the season series. Detroit also enters with a .213 batting average and a 3-7 record over its past 10 games. Those results strengthen the winner pick, though they don't establish how often Cleveland should win this matchup.
Betting decision: Pass
At -168, Cleveland needs to win about 62.7% of the time to break even. Its 35-39 home record offers little additional reason to pay that price. FOX Sports / Associated Press also reports that Rhys Hoskins is on the injured list with a back injury and Chase DeLauter is day-to-day with a hamstring injury. With the starters still probable and DeLauter's availability unsettled, I'd pass on the moneyline.
SPF lists the total at 7.5, with over -115 and under -105. The pitching comparison alone doesn't establish a total bet without a clearer view of the lineups and available bullpen arms. Pass on that market as well.
