Braves vs. Phillies Prediction: Mahle’s Lower ERA Offers a Reason to Consider Atlanta

Analysis updated September 5, 2026 at 11:03 PM CDT

Atlanta gets a tentative nod to win, but Mahle’s ERA advantage alone doesn’t justify a wager at -106.

Probable pitchers and the price

Atlanta’s probable starter Tyler Mahle carries a 4.25 ERA into Sunday’s matchup, compared with 4.93 for Philadelphia’s probable starter Aaron Nola. FanDuel Research, FanDuel’s sports analysis publication, lists both right-handers for the 1:10 p.m. ET game at Citizens Bank Park. That ERA difference favors a closer look at the Braves, who are -106 at SPF against the Phillies’ -114.

FanDuel Research lists Atlanta at 84-58 and Philadelphia at 80-62. The stronger record and Mahle’s lower ERA give Atlanta a narrow nod to win, though those broad measures don’t establish that its chance exceeds the roughly 51.5% needed to break even at -106.

Betting decision

FantasyPros, a fantasy sports advice and data site, had neither team’s confirmed batting order posted. With the hitters still unconfirmed and only a limited pitching comparison, the moneyline decision is Pass.

SPF lists the total at 8, with over and under both -110. The two starters’ ERAs alone can’t support a runs projection without a fuller assessment of the batting orders and bullpens. Pass on the total as well.
