Harrison Dillard, a 1940s track star who had been the oldest living US Olympic gold medalist, died Friday at age 96, the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee announced Saturday. Dillard, who had been hospitalized at the Cleveland Clinic with stomach cancer, won the 100 meters at the 1948 London Olympics, edging compatriot Barney Ewell in the first photo finish in Olympic history. Dillard also won 110m hurdles gold at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics and was part of the US 4x100 gold medal relays at the 1948 and 1952 Olympics. Continue to Article

Carter Hart made plenty of big saves Wednesday night as he stopped 35 shots in the Flyers' 2-1 shootout loss to the NHL-leading Capitals at the Wells Fargo Center. Thanks to an awesome drawing, the beautiful memory of Lucy McCabe and the 21-year-old goalie, his most meaningful moment Wednesday night came after the game. The San Francisco Giants appointed Gabe Kapler as their manager on a three-year contract on Tuesday. Kapler, 44, was fired by the Philadelphia Phillies last month after two disappointing seasons during which they went 161-163. The San Francisco Giants have selected former Philadelphia Phillies manager Gabe Kapler as Bruce Bochy's successor, the team announced Tuesday night. Kapler was fired after two seasons in charge of the Philadelphia Phillies, in which the team hovered around .500 despite an effort to break through in the NL East. The 44-year-old likely had a significant ally in the decision process in Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi, who worked with Kapler when the pair were with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
