Harrison Dillard, a 1940s track star who had been the oldest living US Olympic gold medalist, died Friday at age 96, the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee announced Saturday. Dillard, who had been hospitalized at the Cleveland Clinic with stomach cancer, won the 100 meters at the 1948 London Olympics, edging compatriot Barney Ewell in the first photo finish in Olympic history. Dillard also won 110m hurdles gold at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics and was part of the US 4x100 gold medal relays at the 1948 and 1952 Olympics. Continue to Article

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder/first baseman Cody Bellinger was voted the National League's Most Valuable Player, topping the 2018 winner, Milwaukee Brewers right fielder Christian Yelich. The results of voting by the Baseball Writers Association of America were announced Thursday. Bellinger received 19 of the 30 first-place votes and finished with 362 voting points. After leading the team to a 23-win turnaround and its first American League Central division title since 2010, he became the preferred choice for the AL's Manager of the Year award. Before the 2016 season the Arizona Diamondbacks radically altered their uniforms. The three most radical aspects of the uniform design, as we highlighted at the time, were (1) the blood-red markings around the ankles of the pants, which looked like, well, blood; (2) the dark gray — very dark gray — road uniforms; and (3) the little diamond pattern — sort of a snakeskin pattern — around the shoulders of the jersey. The team did away with the red ankles after only one season, no doubt realizing that all the players looked like they got their ankles stuck in bear traps or something. Continue to Article

The New York Yankees' search for a pitching coach — which had them speak with David Cone and a couple of college coaches — is now over. Blake actually had the title “Director of Pitching” bestowed on him by Cleveland the other day. Blake had been a Yankees area scout before working for the Indians. Continue to Article
