Former major league catcher and first baseman Mike Napoli will join the Chicago Cubs' coaching staff, according to multiple reports Thursday. Napoli, who hit 267 home runs over 12 seasons with the Los Angeles, Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians, will become the Cubs' quality assurance coach under new manager David Ross, according to The Athletic. For a dozen seasons, the San Francisco Giants baseball team was manned by skipper Bruce Bochy, whose tenure netted the team's first, second, and third World Series championships since 1954 when the team resided in New York. Bochy announced his retirement from the sport at the dawn of the 2019 season, leaving the Giants looking for a new manager come the winter. Kapler spent 12 seasons as a professional baseball player, playing for six different teams, and being a part of the famous 2004 Boston Red Sox who won the franchise's first World Series since 1918, ending the infamous, "Curse of the Bambino." Braves' hurler Mike Soroka received one first place vote with Alonso claiming the other 29. The U.S. Treasury Department has told Major League Baseball that a change to its sanctions on Venezuela last week does not allow MLB to resume a partnership with the Venezuelan baseball league, according to a person familiar with the matter. The Venezuelan Professional Baseball League's (LVBP) season got off to an underwhelming start last week, with stadiums nearly empty and star players absent from the eight teams' rosters. MLB in August suspended a deal with its Venezuelan counterpart as it awaited word from the U.S. government on whether players' participation was allowed under the sanctions. Continue to Article
