Dustin Garneau provided a key hit and Tanner Roark fired five strong innings in their Oakland debuts Sunday afternoon, propelling the Athletics to a 4-2 victory and a two-game series sweep of the visiting St. Louis Cardinals. Jurickson Profar chipped in with a home run and five Oakland relievers combined for four innings of one-run support, helping the A's complete a four-game whitewashing of the Cardinals in the interleague season series. Garneau, picked up off waivers Saturday from the Los Angeles Angels, made Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright (7-8) pay for two hit batsmen with a two-out, two-run double that allowed the A's to take the lead for good at 2-1 in the fourth inning. Shane Bieber recorded his second complete game in three outings and third this season as the host Cleveland Indians finished a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels with a 6-2 victory on Sunday. Cleveland's Jason Kipnis drove in three runs and joined Francisco Lindor in belting a homer for the second time in as many days. Rookie Oscar Mercado also went deep and Lindor added a sacrifice fly for the Indians, who have won 16 of their past 21 games overall and 15 of their past 16 home encounters versus Los Angeles. Aaron Sanchez made his debut with the Astros a memorable affair, twirling six innings. Right-handers Will Harris, Joe Biagini and Chris Devenski each worked an inning to complete the no-hitter, the 12th in franchise history. Continue to Article

LA Angels
After losing 13 decisions in a row with Toronto, Aaron Sanchez was looking for a fresh start and a way to turn things around in his move to the Houston Astros. But even with their history of improving the performance of pitchers, it would have been hard to imagine his Houston debut would go this well Saturday night. Sanchez looked like a reinvented pitcher, throwing six stellar innings to start the Astros on a combined no-hitter in their 9-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners. Continue to Article

The Oakland Athletics made a series of roster moves Saturday, including reinstating outfielder Stephen Piscotty from the injured list and claiming catcher Dustin Garneau off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels. The club optioned infielder Franklin Barreto to Triple-A Las Vegas, designated right-handed pitcher Ryan Dull for assignment and released right-handed pitcher Andrew Triggs. The 28-year-old had career highs of 27 home runs and 88 RBIs last season, his first with the A's. Continue to Article
