New York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman said a report of him "one million percent" planning to opt out of the final two years of his contract is "completely false." The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, citing sources, reported Wednesday that Chapman, 31, will enter free agency and forfeit the final two years and $30 million of the five-year, $86 million contract he signed in December 2016. St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday. Rookie infielder Edmundo Sosa was recalled from Triple-A Memphis to take his place on the roster. Batting .215 with 10 home runs and 29 RBIs this season, Carpenter is the seventh Cardinals player currently on the injured list, joining notable regulars such as catcher Yadier Molina and outfielder Marcell Ozuna. The Detroit Tigers recalled former All-Star closer Trevor Rosenthal from Triple-A Toledo on Monday. The 29-year-old Rosenthal signed a minor league deal with the Tigers last month. Rosenthal was an All-Star in 2015 and saved 93 games over a two-season span (2014-15) with the St. Louis Cardinals before ineffectiveness and Tommy John surgery derailed his career. Raimel Tapia, Tony Wolters, Trevor Story and Garrett Hampson had two hits apiece for the Rockies, and Wolters and Daniel Murphy each drove in two runs.
