The All-Star break is not quite here yet, but the New York Mets have had enough drama to fill numerous seasons, and that was before their general manager reportedly threw a chair during a heated meeting with the coaching staff. According to multiple reports Saturday, Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen called for a meeting with manager Mickey Callaway and the team's coaches immediately following Friday night's meltdown, and then ripped into them over the fact the Mets' bullpen wasted a solid seven-inning outing by starter Jacob deGrom. Jay Bruce exacted some revenge on his former team Friday night, when he laced a tie-breaking RBI single in the ninth inning to jumpstart a five-run rally that lifted the visiting Philadelphia Phillies to a 7-2 win over the New York Mets in the opener of a three-game series. Bruce got the go-ahead hit off Edwin Diaz a little more than seven months after he was dealt to the Seattle Mariners in a blockbuster trade that brought Diaz and Robinson Cano to the Mets. Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera was suspended for the remainder of the 2019 season without pay for violating Major League Baseball's domestic violence policy. Herrera's suspension will include the postseason should the Phillies qualify. MLB said that Herrera agreed not to appeal the discipline, which is related to a May 27 incident in Atlantic City, N.J.
