Pete Alonso of the New York Mets smacked his 26th homer on Saturday to set a record for most homers by a National League rookie prior to the All-Star break. Alonso hit a solo blast in the first inning off Chicago Cubs left-hander Jose Quintana to erase the mark of 25 set in 2017 by Cody Bellinger of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Cleveland Indians designated outfielder Leonys Martin for assignment Saturday and called up right-hander Aaron Civale from Triple-A Columbus. Martin, 31, is batting just .199 with nine homers and 19 RBIs in 65 games this season.
