Texas Rangers reliever Shawn Kelley had two lumps surgically removed from his vocal cords this week and is awaiting the results of a biopsy, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Saturday. The right-hander told the newspaper he had the surgery Thursday and expects to have the biopsy results next week. Adrian Beltre isn't missing baseball as much as he thought he would when he retired after 21 seasons and 3,166 hits. The former Texas Rangers third baseman says he's still at peace with the announcement he made last November, which came months after he had actually decided to retire. Beltre spoke at the SMU Athletic Forum on Wednesday, about 2½ weeks before he will be back in Texas when the Rangers retire his No. 29 jersey on June 8. Continue to Article

Kendrys Morales, who was designated for assignment by the Oakland Athletics on Monday, didn't have to wait long to find a new team, as the A's traded him to the New York Yankees on Tuesday. The Yankees announced that they picked up the first baseman/designated hitter and cash considerations from Oakland Athletics in return for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Whatever was smeared under the hat of Seattle pitcher Yusei Kikuchi, it hasn't turned into a sticky situation for the Mariners, New York Yankees or Major League Baseball. A day after a dark substance was spotted under the bill of Kikuchi's cap in a win at Yankee Stadium - possibly illegal pine tar - all sides kept cool.
